Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 11, 2026 · Effective: September 11, 2026
MEMAURIA ("MEMAURIA," "we," "us," or "our") is a private family memory app that helps people record and preserve the voices, faces, and stories of the people they love. We built MEMAURIA to keep something irreplaceable safe — so protecting it is the whole point. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, how we handle it, and the control you have. Please read it alongside our Terms & Conditions.
Contents
1. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run MEMAURIA and keep your memories safe.
Information you give us
- Phone number. Your phone number is your MEMAURIA identity. We use it to create your account and to sign you in with a one-time verification code.
- Your name and, optionally, a profile photo (avatar), so the people who follow you know whose memories they're seeing.
- Recovery details you choose to add: an email address and/or a recovery PIN, used only to help you regain access if you change or lose your phone number. PINs are stored only as a salted cryptographic hash — never in plain text.
- Memories (video recordings). The heart of MEMAURIA: the videos you and the people you invite record in response to guided questions, along with details like the question answered and the recording's length.
- Still-frame thumbnails generated from your recordings so your memory library shows a preview image.
- Invitations. When you invite someone, you may provide their name and phone number so we can send them an invitation to record or to watch. Only invite people who are happy to hear from you.
- Support communications. If you email us, we keep your message and contact details so we can help.
Information we collect automatically
- Basic device & usage data needed to operate and secure the service — for example, app version, device type/operating system, and coarse activity such as when a memory was recorded, viewed, or finalized.
- Diagnostic & error data (such as crash reports) to find and fix problems.
MEMAURIA does not use third-party advertising trackers, and we do not sell your personal information or your memories to anyone.
2. How we use information
- To create your account and sign you in securely.
- To store, process, and play back your memories, and to build your private family library.
- To let you follow family members and to notify people you're connected with when a new memory is ready to watch.
- To send account-related messages — verification codes, invitations you initiate, recovery codes, and important service notices.
- To provide customer support and respond to your requests.
- To keep MEMAURIA safe: preventing fraud and abuse, enforcing our Terms, and protecting our users.
- To fix bugs, improve reliability, and understand how the app is working.
- To comply with legal obligations.
Where required by law, we rely on the following legal bases: performing our contract with you (providing the app), your consent (for example, optional recovery email), our legitimate interests (security and improving the service), and compliance with legal obligations.
3. Phone verification & SMS
To confirm you control your phone number, we send a one-time verification code by SMS through a trusted messaging provider. We generate these codes and store only a short-lived cryptographic hash of them — never the plain code — and they expire after a few minutes. We also send SMS when you invite someone to MEMAURIA, and, if you turn them on, occasional reminders. Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply. You can stop app-initiated SMS by declining reminders in the app and by not sending further invitations.
4. How memories are shared
Your memories are private to your family by default. A memory becomes viewable only to the people connected to that memory's collection — the family members you or the collection's owner have approved. We notify followers that a new memory is available only once it has finished uploading and is ready to watch. We never make your memories public, and we never share them for advertising. You control who follows you through follow requests and approvals in the app.
5. Service providers
We use a small number of reputable infrastructure providers to run MEMAURIA. They process data only on our instructions, under contract, and only to provide their service to us. These include categories such as:
- Cloud application hosting — to run the MEMAURIA service.
- Managed database & secure object storage — to store your account data and your memory videos and thumbnails.
- SMS delivery — to send verification codes and invitations.
- Email delivery — to send recovery and account emails.
- Error monitoring & diagnostics — to detect and fix problems.
- The Apple App Store — for app distribution and, where applicable, purchases (see our Terms). Purchases are handled by Apple under Apple's terms and privacy policy; we do not receive or store your full payment card details.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to respond to valid legal process, to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — in which case we will continue to protect your information and notify you of any change in control of your data.
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and your memories are stored with us, because the purpose of MEMAURIA is long-term preservation. Verification and recovery codes are deleted or expire within minutes. When you delete a memory or your account, we remove the associated content as described below. We may retain limited records where necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
7. Your rights & choices
You have control over your information. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information (you can edit your name, avatar, email, and PIN in the app).
- Delete your memories or your entire account.
- Export a copy of your memories — contact us and we will help.
- Withdraw consent for optional features (such as a recovery email) at any time.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To make a request, use the in-app controls or email info@memauria.com. We may need to verify your identity (for example, via your phone number) before acting on a request.
8. Deleting your account
You can delete individual memories at any time from within the app. To delete your entire account, use the account-deletion option in the app's settings, or email info@memauria.com and we will process your request. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, your recordings and their thumbnails, and your account data from our active systems. Copies may persist for a short period in encrypted backups before being overwritten in the ordinary course, and we may retain limited information where the law requires. Memories you contributed to another person's collection may remain part of that collection unless you ask us to remove them.
9. Security
We protect your information with technical and organizational safeguards: encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest, hashed secrets (PINs and codes are never stored in plain text), access controls that limit who can reach your data, and time-limited signed links for playing back your videos. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your memories and to promptly address any issue we discover.
10. Eligibility & children's privacy
MEMAURIA is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. MEMAURIA is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Adults may choose to record family members of any age, but the account holder is responsible for obtaining the consent of everyone who appears in a recording (and, for minors, the consent of a parent or legal guardian). If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact info@memauria.com and we will delete it.
11. International users
MEMAURIA is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. If you use MEMAURIA from outside the United States, you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as MEMAURIA evolves or as the law requires. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of MEMAURIA after an update means you accept the revised policy.
